HRW News - United States

The U.S. Program of Human Rights Watch concentrates on abuses against those who lack the economic, social or political resources to defend themselves politically and for whom U.S. courts offer inadequate relief. Our work addresses criminal sentencing policies, conditions of confinement including prison rape, race discrimination in the war on drugs, the treatment of INS detainees, and abuses by police and U.S. border patrol. We also work to prevent harassment against gays and lesbians, abuses against child farm workers and the denial of worker's rights. Since September 11, we have added "suspected terrorists" and captured combatants to the list of those who are particularly vulnerable to human rights abuses.
This mailing list will provide you with news and updates on our efforts to protect human rights in the U.S. We appreciate your interest in our work in these important areas.

Arms Trade and the Protection of Human Rights
|
The Arms Division of Human Rights Watch was established in 1992 to monitor and curb the flow of arms to abusive forces, and to oppose the development and use of inhumane weapons. The purpose of this list is to make available to subscribers press releases, public letters and other advocacy materials written by HRW on various arms issues, including landmines, the arms trade, and the development of inhumane weapons. Subscribers will also be alerted to new HRW/Arms reports and campaign intiatives.

Human Rights Watch News: HIV/AIDS

The HIV/AIDS and Human Rights Program investigates human rights abuses related to HIV/AIDS. Abuses such as sexual violence
and coercion of women and girls, stigmatization of men who have sex with men, abuses against sex workers and injecting drug
users, and violations of the right to information about HIV transmission for young people fuel the spread of the epidemic. Research
and documentation of these abuses enables Human Rights Watch to advocate for legal and policy protections for persons affected
by or at high risk of HIV/AIDS.
