Your Excellency:

I have read with deep concern reports of widespread forced recruitment and use of children by Burma's national army. Human rights groups have documented the recruitment of children as young as eleven, brutal treatment during training, and the use of children to participate in active combat and to carry out human rights abuses against civilians.

I urge your government to immediately end all recruitment of children under the age of eighteen and their use as soldiers, and to work with international agencies such as UNICEF to demobilize all children currently in the army.

Sincerely yours,
