Help Stop Spanish and Moroccan Abuses of Unaccompanied Migrant Children

Write to the Moroccan Government

Morocco's failure to provide unaccompanied migrant children with adequate protection and care exposes them to abuses prior to their departure and following their return to Morocco.

  • Write to the Prime Minister to urge him to ensure that unaccompanied migrant children who have been returned to Morocco from Spain are protected from violence and neglect and all children who have been deprived of a family environment receive the special protection and assistance to which they are entitled.

  • Write to the Minister of Foreign Affairs to urge him to ensure that Moroccan embassies and consulates monitor the situation of Moroccan migrant children abroad and provide them with consular services.

  • Write to the Minister of Interior to urge him to investigate reports of police abuse of migrant children, take legal and disciplinary action against those responsible, and ensure that ministry-run juvenile detention centers meet international standards.

  • Write to the Minister of Justice to urge him to introduce legislation to clarify the authorities’ legal obligation to provide special protection and care to children deprived of their family environment and to amend Morocco’s penal laws to ensure that the best interest of the child is a primary consideration in all proceedings.

  • Write to the Minister of Youth and Sports to urge him to ensure that all ministry-run juvenile detention facilities meet international standards and to institute training for their staff on the special needs and rights of unaccompanied migrant children.
