Rather than engage in a serious discussion of the problem of police brutality in New York City, you attacked those who raised the issue -- apparently without even reading the advance copy of the report we had sent you

Today, Human Rights Watch sent open letter to Mayor Rudolph Guilianiexpressing disappointment in his summary rejection last week of Human Rights Watch's extensive study of police brutality in the United States.

The 440-page HRW report addressed difficulties in holding abusive police officers accountability in 14 cities across the United States, including New York. Apparently without reading the report, Mayor Guiliani denounced it. A copy of a letter in reply from Human Rights Watch Executive Director Kenneth Roth is attached
