About the Geneva Office
Human Rights Watch is an international human rights monitoring and advocacy organization which promotes the observance of internationally recognized human rights worldwide.
Human Rights Watch opened a representation in Geneva in 2001. The office is subdivided in three departments:
- An Advocacy department, which focuses on ensuring a permanent presence in the United Nations and other international agencies, in order to raise awareness on human rights issues.
- A Development and Outreach department, which strives to disseminate information and raise awareness of local residents on global human rights issues and on the work of Human Rights Watch. With the Geneva support committee, it designs specific outreach and advocacy initiatives and organizes fundraising events.
- A Refugee Policy Program, which ensures presence and lobbying at the UNHCR and other related agencies.
As part of a larger network of offices worldwide, Human Rights Watch Geneva is joined by offices located in Brussels, Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles, Moscow, Paris, San Francisco, Tashkent, Washington, Zurich and our International Headquarters based in New York.
