- Please take a moment to review our Video Catalog and select the titles that interest you.
- Next, complete our Application Form indicating the video title(s) you would like to borrow.
The Application Form can either be mailed, faxed or emailed back to us.
- Once we receive your Application Form, we will contact you by phone to review your request.
- We will then mail out a VHS or DVD copy of the title(s) you requested.
Please note that the videos we send are for your own preview purposes only.
- If you would like to show the tape to your students, you must first contact our Program Manager Jen Nedbalsky
two to four weeks in advance of your proposed screening date. Jen will assist you in organizing the screening and in completing a screening contract. (A screening contract is required for each classroom/after-school screening event.) Whenever possible, Jen will provide a guest speaker to present to your students after the screening.
(Please note that guest speakers are available for schools and after-school programs in the New York metropolitan area only, depending on the speakers' availability.)
- With your permission, Jen Nedbalsky will attend classroom/after-school screenings in the local New York metropolitan area to assist with facilitating discussion
and to request either oral or written evaluations from the students after the screening.
- We require that both teachers and students complete our evaluation
forms and mail them to us no later than two weeks following a screening event. These forms will be mailed to you with the VHS preview cassette.
Evaluation Forms are also available for download on our web site.
- If you do not decide not to show a video to your students, please mail the tape(s) back to us by the due date listed on the shipping invoice.

Our program is designed for high school teachers and after-school educators teaching in the United States.
For university, community, or international screenings, we ask that you contact the film's distributor directly to order the film.
Distributor contact information is listed for each title in the Video Catalog section of our classroom web site.
University professors and community based organizations can also consult our Human Rights Watch Traveling Film Festival web site
to find out how to rent selected films from the Human Rights Watch New York and London Film Festivals.

What resources are available through the High School Program?
|
|
VHS or DVD videos
The High School Program videos are available for previewing and screening primarily on VHS cassette with limited titles available on DVD.
These titles are on loan and must be returned one month after their shipping date.
To request a video, please complete and return our Application Form.
Speaker Presentations
Whenever possible, we will schedule a presentation with the filmmaker,
an activist, or a protagonist from the film to immediately follow your classroom screening.
These speakers breathe life and immediacy into the issues raised in the videos.
They also provide a catalyst for discussion of important and sometimes challenging issues.
This resource is, unfortunately, available only for teachers and after-school educators in the New York metropolitan area.
To request a speaker presentation, please complete our Application Form.
Educational Materials
Each title has accompanying online and printable educational materials.
To view these materials, please visit the Video Catalog section of our web site and click on the title of the film you are interesting in viewing.
If you have specific requests for educational materials, please contact Program Manager Jen Nedbalsky at nedbalj(at)hrw.org
or 212.216.1247. |

What costs are involved?
|
|
Public Schools
We offer our resources to public schools free of charge.
The only cost involved in participation is the cost of mailing back all borrowed VHS cassettes and student and teacher evaluation forms.
Our ongoing ability to provide free resources to public schools is dependent on teachers' support in fulfilling these two requirements.
Private Schools
Distributor fees apply for private school screenings of our High School Program videos.
Educational rates vary and are set by the film's distributor.
We request that private schools also contribute towards guest speaker honoraria if a speaker is requested.
All teachers are asked to cover the cost of mailing back all borrowed tapes in addition to student and teacher evaluation forms.
After-School Programs
We offer free resources to after-school programs working in underserved communities without budget for arts programming.
The only cost these programs are asked to pay is the cost of mailing back all borrowed videos and student and teacher evaluation forms.
After-school programs with budget for arts programming are asked to contribute towards film distribution fees and the guest speaker honorarium if a speaker is requested.
