• Identifying, cultivating, servicing and soliciting individual donors, prospects and Chicago Committee members;
• Servicing Human Rights Watch International Board members located in Chicago;
• Overseeing the production of fundraising, outreach and cultivation events in Chicago, including the annual Voices for Justice dinner;
• Working with the Advocacy, Communications, and Program staff to design and implement Chicago press and advocacy strategies in order to promote Human Rights Watch’s goals;
• Developing partnerships with local organizations to raise awareness of human rights and the work of Human Rights Watch;
• Overseeing the Chicago Young Advocates and other outreach initiatives in Chicago;
• Developing local foundation prospects and servicing corporate donors;
• Assisting with the cultivation and servicing of selected major donors in the Midwest region; and
• Other tasks, as may be assigned.
Qualifications: The successful applicant will have a minimum of eight years of fundraising experience, with emphasis on the creation and management of major gifts programs, and must possess strong oral and written communications skills in English. Experience with overseeing large fundraising events and managing a variety of volunteers is also desired. The applicant must be a disciplined self-starter who can work independently but also function as a member of a development team. The candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to human rights and/or international issues and the capacity to master and represent the mission and program of HRW.
