Description: The Helpdesk Administrator will be an integral member of the Information Technology (“IT”) Department within this large (US$37.5M) and growing international non-profit organization. He or she will report to the organization’s Helpdesk Manager and will support the Helpdesk function and provide light network administration and software/hardware support for HRW’s worldwide operations, which includes 280+ employees in nearly 45 locations around the world. The Helpdesk Administrator will be the Department’s first point of contact in HRW’s N.Y. Office and will have additional responsibilities related to HRW’s offices outside of New York.  
 
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:  
• Primary responsibility as user support for Windows workstation/laptop running Windows Office & Operating System. Be present and visible in the Help Desk and available to users requiring technical assistance  
• Respond to questions from callers and walk-ins; remotely assist staff with technology problems in offices, local or remote facilities that HRW maintains worldwide; assist in-person with problems in the New York office  
• Learn fundamental operations of commonly used software, hardware, and other equipment  
• Follow standard Help Desk operating procedures; accurately log all Help Desk contacts using call tracking software  
• Accept general responsibility for the computer office environment and ensure that it is ready for use; stock paper and toner in printers, push in chairs, restart frozen computers, etc  
• Enforce all computer policies  
• Manage the circulation of headphones, manuals or other materials as appropriate  
• Attend all Help Desk training sessions  
• Become familiar with available Helpdesk resources; stay updated on current helpdesk technology changes or problems  
• Become familiar with IT policies, services, and staff  
• Direct calls to appropriate IT staff as necessary  
• Maintain reasonable discipline and decorum in the Help Desk and computer work areas  
• Other duties as assigned by the Help Desk Manager or other IT staff  
 
Qualifications: The successful candidate will be able to employ sound judgment regarding Helpdesk matters, including input in decision-making with regard to implementation, maintenance and administration of workstations, laptops, mobile devices. Candidates must be self-motivated, extremely well-organized, collegial, and willing to take initiative and prioritize with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work quickly and effectively under pressure; the capacity to pay close attention to detail while working in a fast-paced environment and juggling multiple tasks; and the ability to work independently as well as function as a member of a team. A minimum of a 4 year B.S. college degree and two years experience in a Microsoft Windows and HP environment is required. The Helpdesk Administrator may be required to travel to HRW’s other national or international locations.
