Other terms: Gazetted places of detention—those published in the official gazette as required by law Habeas corpus—the “great writ” of English common law, Latin for "you have the body." It is a writ (court order) which directs the law enforcement officials (prison administrators, police) who have custody of a prisoner to produce the prisoner in court and provide reasons for his detention. It was used historically to prevent the King from jailing enemies without cause.
