Jobs with Human Rights Watch
Internships
The Toronto Office of Human Rights Watch offers an unpaid internship program for undergraduate students, graduate students and volunteers year-round. Internship opportunities are available for individuals interested in learning about our work and making a contribution to our organization in our Toronto office.
Please keep in mind that the Toronto office is primarily a fundraising office that does limited advocacy work. There are no research based internship positions in the Toronto office and no program divisions.
Interns will be responsible for providing administrative support to our full-time staff in and will play a role in planning our outreach events such as our Annual Dinner and Film Festival. Duties are two-fold and can include the following:
- Administrative support: answering the phone, database entry, minute- taking, drafting letters and emails, filing, internet research, etc.
- Event planning support: maintaining invitation lists; creating spreadsheets; coordinating volunteers; organizing mailings; liaising with vendors, etc.
Each intern is asked to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, 3 days a week for 3 months. A "summer" internship would constitute approximately three months between the months of May and September. A "fall" internship would constitute approximately three months between the months of September and December. A "spring" internship would constitute approximately three months between the months of December and May. Of course, we encourage interns to stay with us for more than three months, if possible.
If you are interested in interning or volunteering with Human Rights Watch in Toronto, please send your resume to Lija Skobe at skobel@hrw.org or call our office at 416-322-8448.
