Gerry Simpson is an associate director in the Crisis, Conflict and Arms Division at Human Rights Watch, where he researches rights abuses in crisis and conflict settings, including in the Central African Republic, Ethiopia, the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Syria, Ukraine, and Yemen.

Previously, Gerry worked with Human Rights Watch’s Refugee Program on refugee and other displacement situations including in Afghanistan, Cameroon, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Kenya, Liberia, Libya, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan’s Southern Kordofan State, Turkey, and Yemen.

Before joining Human Rights Watch, Gerry worked as a human rights lawyer in London and then as an advocate and protection officer with Médecins sans Frontières, the Norwegian Refugee Council, and the International Rescue Committee’s Emergency Team in numerous countries, including the Central African Republic, Colombia, Darfur, Sierra Leone, southern Sudan, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, and Uganda. Gerry holds law degrees from Southampton (UK) and Rouen (France) Universities, and the College of Europe in Bruges (Belgium).
