Barbados Barbados: Child Soldier Global Report 2001 From the Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers According to the Barbados Defence Act, the minimum age for voluntary recruitment into the armed forces is 18 years. But according to section 19 (2) of the Defence Act a recruitment officer can enlist a person under the age of 18 years in the regular forces where "consent to the enlistment has been given in writing by a parent or person in whose care the young person is held ". June 12, 2001 Barbados: Landmine Monitor Report 2000 Barbados signed the Mine Ban Treaty on 3 December 1997 and ratified on 26 January 1999. The treaty entered into force for Barbados on 1 July 1999. It is not believed to have enacted domestic implementation legislation. Barbados has not yet submitted its Article 7 transparency report, due 27 December 1999. Barbados did not attend the First Meeting of States Parties to the Mine Ban Treaty in Maputo in May 1999 and has not participated in the intersessional meetings of the ban treaty. It voted in favor of UN General Assembly Resolution 54/54B in support of the Mine Ban Treaty in December 1999. Barbados has stated that it has never produced, imported, stockpiled or used antipersonnel landmines, and is not mine-affected. August 1, 2000
