Moldova: Landmine Monitor Report 2000
Moldova signed the Mine Ban Treaty on 3 December 1997. Government officials had said that the treaty would not be ratified until the issues related to the status of the Pridnestrovie Moldavian Republic (PMR) are resolved,88 and Russian troops withdrawn from its territory.89 (For background on Moldova and PMR, see LM Report 1999, pp. 743-744.) However, on 27 April 2000, the Moldovan Parliament ratified the Mine Ban Treaty.90 The President signed the law on 14 June 2000. According to an official of the Foreign Ministry, the instrument of ratification will be sent to the United Nations in September 2000.

Human Rights in Moldova: The Turbulent Dniester
This report covers a broad spectrum of human rights abuses that occurred in the region of the Dniester River in Moldova. The most egregious are those committed in connection with the armed conflict that erupted in the first half of 1992, including indiscriminate attacks on civilians and civilian structures and extrajudicial killings. It also documents violations of civil and political rights that were partially caused and later exacerbated by the armed conflict. These include discriminatory dismissals from the workplace and ethnically motivated assaults.
