A mass grave was discovered in Sloviansk, eastern Ukraine. The bodies have yet to be identified, but several local residents came to the grave searching for loved ones who disappeared when pro-Russian insurgents controlled the area. 

Unguided Grad rockets launched apparently by Ukrainian government forces and pro-government militias have killed at least 16 civilians and wounded many more in insurgent-controlled areas of Donetsk and its suburbs in at least four attacks between July 12 and 21.

The recent surge in child migrants crossing into the US from Mexico has rekindled public debate over US immigration policy. But whether they’re children who arrived yesterday or adults who came 20 years ago, there are 11 million unauthorized immigrants in the US, and they are highly vulnerable to abuse and exploitation. Israel has rejected a plan for a ceasefire put forward by US Secretary of State John Kerry. The plan had proposed a 7 day pause in the fighting. A UN refugee agency said that more than 150,000 people in Gaza are seeking shelter. 

The Snowden revelations on mass surveillance practices, especially by the US and UK, have triggered a global struggle over the right to privacy—and a report by the outgoing UN human-rights commissioner has set the terrain for the next phase.
