Francisco, 28, Honduras, recounting crossing into Mexico

We crossed the bridge, we got to what you’d call the gate. We didn’t even get to the immigration office, just to the gate, and said to the security guard that we were coming to present ourselves voluntarily at the immigration office because we wanted to ask for asylum in this country. But the security guard told us that there was no one there, that there was no immigration office. That there was nothing there. That we should leave. We were there for a moment, but the security guard told us that we could not be there; he told us once and then he said it again three times, because he didn’t really want us there. So then we decided to go back to Guatemala.
